Inglés – Sustainability

In 2015, the UN General Assembly presented the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a plan of peace and prosperity for people and the planet with 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) covering the economic, social, and environmental aspects. This vision is holistic and inclusive and aims to transform the planet.

Cultural entities, companies, and other agents are called upon to play a leading role in the transformation, since cultural action is closely related to the development of people and territories.

Taking into account these connotations and being aware of the importance of culture within the 2030 Agenda, the Mares da Fin do Mundo International Documentary Film Festival is a signatory of the “Pacto pola Cultura Sustentable”, which constitutes the commitment of the Galician cultural sector to the 2030 Agenda. Through the “Pacto pola Cultura Sustentable” we subscribe to a common sustainability policy, reinforcing the need to think globally and act locally and the importance of partnerships to achieve these goals.

MDFDM is closely linked to the territory where it takes place, so our actions are aligned with environmental, social and economic sustainability. The results of this are the partnerships established annually with local entities that work for social inclusion, such as the Asociación A Misela, the Asociación de Discapacitados da Bisbarra de Muros “ADISBISMUR” and the Asociación Pro Saúde Mental A Creba. In the last two editions, the official gift of the Mostra was a keyring made with plastics extracted from the cleaning of our coasts, elaborated by the Aula Sostible do Freixo, an initiative of collaborative work of circular economy promoted by the Agrupación de Mulleres do Sector Pesqueiro SEO Fisterra – Ría de Muros Noia and the City Council of Outes, in which the mentioned entities of social inclusion are integrated. A project that has already been awarded by the Consellería do Mar in 2022 with one of the Blue Economy awards, as well as by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in the Excellence Awards for innovation for rural women in 2023.
